Most people sign up for a diving course because they want to learn how to dive and dive during their holidays. But actually you learn more than diving and you get more out of it than you expect.
In the PADI Open Water Diver course you learn how to dive and you learn how to follow your underwater guide in a responsible way. You're always diving with a buddy. Before you enter the water you both agree on who will lead the dive and who will follow. If everyone in the group wants to lead and nobody wants to follow none of you will have a buddy. Everybody will have to go on their own, which is not safe. Every company have to have a manager, every government unit have to have a leader, every army have to have a chief. If the leader is playing a good leader and the followers are playing good followers. That unit or that company will run well. But if one of them, the leader or the follower don't play their part then that unit will not be successful.
In the PADI Rescue course you learn that your own safety is the first priority. To help other people you have to save yourself first. No one will benefit from you becoming the second victim when you try to save someone. If you can not swim you will not be able to help a drowning person. You will be the scond victim if you jump in to the water. Even if you can swim you should not just jump in to the water right away. In many situations it's more prudent to extend a stick or throw a floating device to the victim.
PADI diving courses are not only diving courses. There is more good you can learn from them. When will you do the next one?
